Residents of the Town of West Bloomfield gathered in early 2025 seeking common ground as they looked toward their local election in November 2025. Julie Eveleigh and Birgit Coffey organized regular meetings where Republicans, Democrats and Independents turned out for educational presentations on how to run for office and learn more about the responsibilities of Town officials. The combined campaign of three first-time candidates of varying viewpoints on the Democratic ticket reflects this growing effort to bring residents together in service to the Town.

Julie Eveleigh, Candidate for West Bloomfield Town Board

Julie Eveleigh is a candidate for a seat on the Town Board and a 27-year resident of Bloomfield. She currently represents the Town of West Bloomfield on the Ontario County Democratic Committee. Eveleigh and her husband Stephen have two children who graduated from Bloomfield Central School. Twenty-five years ago, Eveleigh sought approval from the Town of West Bloomfield when she began a small business out of her home which is still operating today. She is motivated to support others seeking to open a local business, and to be responsive to those with ideas about the needs of the town. Her goal is to play a role in “helping West Bloomfield continue to develop a strong sense of identity with an enhanced town center—a place that balances its rural charm with a forward-thinking vision.”

Julie is a counselor who has been assisting individuals, couples and families in the tri-county area for 25 years.  She is also an avid bicyclist who takes daily rides through the West Bloomfield countryside in summer. She especially likes seeing neighbors, friends and scenery that remind her of the reasons she and her husband moved here from Monroe County so many years ago.  Julie is also active in her church community and has been volunteering as co-director of the choir for the past 15 years.  Though Julie's two adult children now live far from Bloomfield, they love to return to their cherished West Bloomfield roots.  The only "child" who still lives at home with Julie and her husband Steve is their rescue dog, JJ.

Testimonials

Julie Eveleigh and her family have been a pillar in the West Bloomfield community for several years. Julie and her husband Steve raised two children in the Bloomfield Schools. I had the pleasure knowing Julie when she assisted me on my campaign for town board, and I am pleased to provide my support and assistance to her campaign for West Bloomfield Town Board.  Julie has been instrumental in bringing the West Bloomfield political arena back to the forefront of our town. She is a phenomenal talent and a kind person. She is approachable, dedicated to providing answers and solutions, has an excellent work ethic and communication skills, is passionate and will work for YOU and be heard. Julie Eveleigh, Town Board Candidate brings her professional skill set as a social worker to her Town Board work through her well- developed group collaborative skills.  She will listen carefully to individuals, consider all points of view, study the issues and then take action to move community needs forward. Julie’s wonderful organizational skills and collaborative working style will be an energizing value on our town board.  As a 27- year resident of West Bloomfield and a parent whose children have attended the Bloomfield Schools, she has many insights into our community.  Our town board needs her skill sets and her caring decision- making to move our community forward. Birgit Coffey, Candidate for West Bloomfield Town Board

Birgit Coffey, a candidate for Town Board, has been a West Bloomfield resident for 27 years, alongside her husband Michael and their two daughters, both graduates of Bloomfield Central School. Coffey is a math instructor at RIT and was a regular parent volunteer with the school district for many years. With gratitude for the Town’s past summer recreation opportunities for youth, she is eager to give back by serving as a Town Council member, bringing together her skills as an educator and dedication to public service on behalf of all West Bloomfield residents.

Testimonials

Birgit Coffey, Town Board candidate, is a person who makes things happen!  She enjoys thinking through issues and coming to good decisions.  Birgit has well developed computer skills that include: searching for ideas, designing marketing materials and using technology to connect people with helpful information.  She enjoys learning about new ideas and as a 27 year resident already has a good grasp community needs.   Submitted by Ruth Cahn, long-time West Bloomfield Resident

Tim Schiefen, Candidate for West Bloomfield Town Supervisor

Tim Schiefen is a candidate for Town Supervisor and is also running on the Common Sense party line. Schiefen hopes to put his experience as the operator of two area businesses and his skills as a communicator and collaborator to work for the community. A West Bloomfield businessman for over 25 years, he and his wife Kelly have raised two children in Bloomfield. He has served for 23 years as a Scout leader with West Bloomfield Pack and Troop 56 and is the recipient of Scouting’s prestigious Silver Beaver Award for adult volunteers. Schiefen is a trustee with the West Bloomfield Historical Society and has been involved with the Ionia Fall Festival as a supporter and enthusiastic announcer for the Antique Tractor parade.

Testimonials

Tim Schiefen, Town Supervisor candidate, is very well known and is appreciated for his numerous volunteer activities in West Bloomfield. He has a passion for working with young people to develop their sense of solving problems and developing personal strategies for dealing with challenge.  Both of these skills are very much a part of being a town supervisor!  While there is much to learn as a first- time Town Supervisor and member of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors, I am sure that Tim will meet the challenges with the same energy and knowledge that he has brought to his business and community work.  Submitted by Ruth Cahn, long-time West Bloomfield Resident
